Desiree Fernandes was born in the United States of America to Cabo-Verdean parents. Her father came from Santiago and her mother from São Nicolau. She became a singer at a very young age, with her love of her Cabo Verdean culture and its traditional music. 

She has participated and has been featured in various performances and fundraisers. In addition to being featured in various Cabo Verdean magazines, newspapers, and television shows, Desiree was interviewed by Kids Talk Radio for a segment on keeping Jazz alive in schools across the USA.

After almost a decade of research and hard work Desiree is in the process of completing the recording of her highly anticipated CD. The project will feature compositions by some of Cabo Verde's most well know composers.  In addition, she is currently attending graduate school at NYU's Gallatin School of Individualized Study pursuing Musical Theatre, African Studies and Post-Colonial Cultural Identity.
